One Fanaticism by ColonelDespard One Fanaticism by ColonelDespard
"The toad always has his eyes fixed on heaven. Why? In order to watch the bird in its flight. Grantaire, in whom writhed doubt, loved to watch faith soar in Enjolras." - Victor Hugo, "Les Miserables"

I want to hug this picture. You capture so much emotion in their eyes. And I'm a glutton for anything Enjolras/Grantaire.

Thank you :) I have a love/hate remationship with E/R myself...it's the most tempting, frustrating, baffling and fraught relationship among the Amis...so simple, and yet so very complicated.

I wonder, why this picture didn'm make it earlier to my favs, then I like seeing them together. Sepecaially if they look like this. You can really see Grantairs adoration for Enjy.

Yes...I've had far too little of this pair to date. I'm still looking at ideas for a painting of their final moments, but can't settle on the composition - so far everything I've drawn has seemed off. All I know is I want to go with the translation that has them still holding hands as the guns go off.

That's hard to draw... try it.

I did a simple sillouette version that's in my scraps and have done some composition sketches. The most like POV would be from the NG, so there would be a row of gun barrels foregrounded, but having them standing side by side seems rather dull. There are a few elements that I'd like to work in - sunlight through a window touching Enjolras' hair etc. Not sure about the billiard table.

Your Enjolras = gorgeous (if you don't mind me reiterating everyone else's opinions.) The lines are so beautiful and clean. You are definitely inspiring me to get back into all the shading techniques I learned in art class. :salute:

Oh, thank you! I'm glad you think the lines are clean...I always worry about my "fudgy-smudgy" style.

Thank you! I was on the honey vodka when I did this, so wasn't sure if it was worth uploading...I thought it was a bit too cliched. But then I realised I didn't have any R & Enjolras at all in my gallery!

Fitting title. An Jolrasuu looks very stern, and determined, as he should be. I also think that this, along with the extremely symbolic semi-nudes, is one of the prettiest An Jolrasuus you've ever drawn. I like his eyes.

Grantaire's all "LOL 'SUP?" Not even a sillysilly R would divert Republican Princess' attention from his one and only true passion. EEEE. :salute: to you for portraying this concept in a beautiful and adorable way, as always. There should be an artbook dedicated specifically toward LM symbolism, and in it a huuuuuuge COLONEL DESPARD section.

Oh yes...he's totally *on mission* and determined not to notice the wine-laden fumes being breathed into his ear. Actually, I think he really doesn't notice them!

Compliments from you on symbolism matter a huge deal, given that you move in the symbolic world as easily as a fish in water!

Yes...they're rather inevitable! Although every time I reread those parts of the book, I'm fascinated all over again by their wacky dynamics.
